Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Wisdom teeth are assessed according to their position in the mouth and their effects on surrounding tissues.
The need for extraction is determined by examination and imaging when necessary. Contact our clinic for information about the scope of the service.
Why are wisdom teeth assessed?
Third molars at the back of the mouth may erupt completely, erupt partially or remain impacted. Their position and effect on surrounding tissues vary from person to person.
Does every wisdom tooth need to be removed?
No. Teeth that cause no symptoms and show no signs of disease can be monitored. A dentist may consider extraction if there is pain, recurrent infection or a problem affecting an adjacent tooth.
Examination and procedure
The position of the tooth is assessed by examination and, where necessary, imaging. If extraction is needed, the method, anaesthesia and possible risks are explained in light of the position and the person’s health.
After extraction
Follow your clinician’s individual care instructions, protect the wound and attend recommended follow-up visits. Contact a healthcare professional for persistent bleeding, increasing swelling or severe pain.
Frequently asked questions
Does an impacted tooth always cause pain?
No. Even without symptoms, an examination can assess the tooth and whether monitoring is needed.
What are the possible risks?
Your clinician will explain risks such as infection, wound-healing problems and nerve involvement depending on the tooth’s position.
